The FIU continuously engages in international cooperation with its partners, not only in the area of information exchange, but also with regard to exchange of knowledge and expertise. The objectives of the FATF are to protect the integrity of the financial system, and enhance its transparency, which contribute towards global security.\n\nThe main tasks carried out by the FATF are as follows:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Conduct and publish of expert operational and strategic studies on risks, trends, and methods;<\/li>\n \t<li>Develop and refine international standards to combat money laundering, and the financing of terrorism and proliferation (the FATF Recommendations);<\/li>\n \t<li>Develop global policies, best practices and guidance;<\/li>\n \t<li>Assess and monitor compliance of its member countries with the standards through peer reviews and follow-up processes;<\/li>\n \t<li>Promote and implement the FATF Recommendations by all countries through the global network of FATF-style regional bodies (FSRBs) and international organisations; and<\/li>\n \t<li>Identify and engage with high-risk, non-co-operative jurisdictions as well as those with strategic deficiencies in their AML\/CFT system and coordinate actions to protect the financial system against the threat posed by them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<em>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fatf-gafi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Action Task Force<\/a> website for more information.<\/em><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-5082\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-5082\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-5082\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/fiu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/ESAAMLG.jpg\" alt=\"null\" \/>\n\nThe Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) is a FATF-style regional body, set up in 1999, subscribing to global standards relating to the combat of money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation.\n\nThe main objectives of the ESAAMLG are to:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Adopt and implement the FATF Recommendations;<\/li>\n \t<li>Apply anti-money laundering measures to all the predicate crimes;<\/li>\n \t<li>Implement measures to combat the financing of terrorism; and<\/li>\n \t<li>Implement any other measures contained in the multilateral agreements and initiatives to which they subscribe for the prevention and control of the laundering of the proceeds of all predicate crimes and the financing of terrorist and proliferation activities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nAs a founder member of the ESAAMLG, Mauritius has committed itself to comply with the FATF Recommendations. The main roles of the Egmont Group include:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Providing FIUs with a platform to securely exchange expertise and financial intelligence to combat ML\/TF, and associated predicate offences;<\/li>\n \t<li>Improving stakeholders\u2019 understanding of ML\/TF risks and draws upon operational experience to inform policy considerations, including AML\/CFT implementation and AML\/CFT reforms;<\/li>\n \t<li>Supporting international partners\u2019 and other stakeholders\u2019 efforts to implement the resolutions and statements of the United Nations Security Council, Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and G20 Finance Ministers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nThe FIU has been a member of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units since 2003. The aim of ARINSA is to increase the effectiveness of members\u2019 efforts, individually and collectively, on a multi-agency basis, in depriving criminals of instrumentalities of crime and illicit profits. The key objectives of the ARINSA are to:<\/p><ol><li>focus on the proceeds and instrumentalities of all crimes, within the scope of international obligations;<\/li><li>establish itself as a Centre of Excellence on all aspects of tackling the instrumentalities and proceeds of crime;<\/li><li>promote the exchange of information and good practice;<\/li><li>establish a network of contact points;<\/li><li>facilitate and promote, the establishment, where possible, of national centres of excellence in all aspects of tackling the proceeds of crime;<\/li><li>make recommendations to other bodies such as the Eastern and Southern African Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) and SADC, relating to all aspects of tackling the proceeds of crime;<\/li><li>act as an advisory group to appropriate authorities;<\/li><li>facilitate, where possible, training in all aspects of tackling the proceeds of crime;<\/li><li>recognise the importance of cooperation with the private sector in achieving its aim.<\/li><\/ol><p>For the period January 2016 to 29<sup>th<\/sup> March 2024, the FIU, through the ARID, was a member of ARINSA.
