The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), established in August 2002 has emerged as a critical element in the country’s AML/CFT framework and is a member of the Egmont Group, playing a leading role in the African region with respect to FIU development and implementation of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Egmont standards.
