Based on the findings of the National Risk Assessment (NRA) and the gaps identified in the Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) of Mauritius, a National AML/CFT Strategy 2019-2022 was adopted by the Government to tackle money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF) and proliferation financing (PF) threats. The National AML/CFT Strategy describes the priorities and objectives in addressing financial crime and assists Mauritius in meeting international obligations set by the FATF and endorsed by ESAAMLG members.
The National AML/CFT Strategy comprises eight core themes that enhances the ability of Mauritius to prevent, detect and deter ML/TF/PF. The eight core strategic themes are set out below:
