FIU and MRA Reinforce Cooperation in the Fight Against Financial Crime

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) recently engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest relating to the prevention of financial crimes.

The engagements were led by the Acting Director of the FIU, Mr. Kiran Bhoyroo, with the participation of Mr. Leo Ferre, Director of Fiscal Investigation and Mr. Dinathsing Mungla, Section Head at MRA Customs.

The discussions provided an opportunity for a constructive exchange of views on the evolving nature of financial crime, as well as on the respective roles, expertise and perspectives of the two institutions.

Particular attention was given to the importance of financial intelligence, customs information and fiscal information in developing a more comprehensive understanding of financial crime risks. The discussions highlighted the value of bringing together complementary areas of expertise, particularly in an increasingly interconnected and complex financial environment.

The engagement between the FIU and the MRA reflects the importance of bringing together complementary institutional perspectives in support of Mauritius’ efforts to prevent and combat illicit financial activity. Such cooperation contributes to a stronger and more coordinated national response to financial crime and reinforces collective efforts to safeguard the integrity of Mauritius’ financial and economic environment.

For the FIU, such institutional engagement forms an important part of its broader role in strengthening financial intelligence, fostering effective cooperation with competent authorities and contributing to the continued effectiveness of Mauritius’ AML/CFT framework.
