Darmanand Virahsawmy holds a D.E.S.S (MPhil) in Economics of Financial Information and a Maitrise in Econometrics from the University of Montpellier, France.

Darmanand Virahsawmy held the position of Senior Manager/Head of Business Development/Compliance Executive at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) from May 1996 to December 2021. He joined the SEM in 1989 as Manager and played an instrumental role in the structuring, marketing and setting up of the Stock Exchange in Mauritius.

Darmanand Virahsawmy has been associated with all the key projects that have contributed to the emergence of SEM as one of the leading Exchanges in Africa. Before joining the Stock Exchange of Mauritius, Darmanand Virahsawmy worked at the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development in Mauritius as an Economist and the Stock Exchange Commission as Research Officer from 1988-1989.At the Stock Exchange Commission, in collaboration with the French experts from the Bourse de Paris, he assisted in the drafting of the Rules and Regulations for the market operations of the Stock Exchange in Mauritius.
